Emily Cheeseman
Emily Cheeseman is a self-taught illustrator based in Dayton, Ohio, where she actively participates in the local art community such as the Front Street art market in Dayton. Cheeseman has become renowned for her vibrant works inspired by fantasy, folklore, and adventure tales.
Her art emphasizes bold shapes and rich colors, often depicting fairies, mermaids, elves, and other fantastical elements. Cheeseman is the author and illustrator of the comic adaptation Gawain and the Green Knight (2017), available both as a webcomic and in hardcover. This graphic adaptation has been praised by Professor of English Literature Wajih Ayed (2024), as providing an immersive and orientating experience for readers unfamiliar with western medieval imagery and tropes, this is a quality of graphic adaptations generally for Ayed but is exemplified in the inviting and naturalistic imagery of Emily’s illustrations.
Cheeseman is represented by Kurestin Armada at Root Literary.
